The tour is a guided tour with bus to projects and facilities in Copenhagen and is organized by The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities and ISCA.

The tour takes place from 10 a.m. to 14 p.m. The starting point of the tour is the parking area between DGI-Byen’s hotel and the MOVE2009 congress facility. A light lunch will be provided during the tour.

All MOVE2009 participants will receive in their welcome pack a registration form for the study tour. The registration form has to be delivered to the MOVE2009 congress desk before 10 a.m. Friday, 23 October 2009. The study tour is free of charge for MOVE 2009 participants that have paid full congress fee.

The tour includes the following sites:

PLUG N PLAY

Plug n Play is a brand new and innovative 25,000 sq. m. sports and recreational area. The facility is intended to provide access to sports and recreational activities for people of all ages. The area allocates and integrates space for both established sporting codes as well as new and less formally organized activities such as Parkour, Dirt Jump and Speedskating. While some immerse themselves in the speed, sport and fun, others can busy themselves in one of the organic vegetable plots that are situated in the urban gardens.

The key message is accessibility: PLUG N PLAY is not restricted by opening and closing hours – it’s open everyday all year round and entry is free to all.

The Metro takes one straight to the playing field.

HAVNEBADET, ISLANDS BRYGGE

HARBOUR BATH, ISLANDS BRYGGE

Copenhagen was forever changed during the summer of 2002 when the Harbour Bath on Islands Brygge came into existence. The water in the harbour was declared clean after many years of heavy use as a conveyor belt for the large transportation ships.

Having water in Copenhagen harbour which is as clean as the water in Øresund - the strait between Denmark and Sweden - presents a unique opportunity for the citizens of Copenhagen and visitors to the city to cool off right in the heart of the city while enjoying the view of the Copenhagen skyline and the waterfront.

The Island Brygge Harbour Bath is situated 115 m. south of the Langebro Bridge. There are a total of five pools; two of these are for children: one for the very young and one for juniors. All children under eight years must be accompanied by an adult. The diving pool has a three and a five-metre springboard. The Bath has capacity for approximately 600 persons.

The Bath is shaped as an oblong square with long walking areas allocated for pedestrians. These are made in wood in order to resemble the promenade deck on a passenger ship. The platform for springboard diving is shaped to resemble the stern of a ship while the tower for the lifeguards is shaped like a ship’s chimneystack.

AMAGER STRANDPARK

AMAGER BEACH

Amager Beach is an artificially created beach, which was inaugurated in 2005. It is situated just five km from the centre of Copenhagen and two km from Copenhagen international airport. Amager Beach has 4.6 km. of white sand beach laid out for recreational purposes and all kinds of beach activities. It is divided into two parts: the beach on the mainland running along Amager Strandvej road and a two km long island, which is connected to the mainland by three bridges. From the island there is a nice view of the Swedish coast, and the Øresund Bridge.

Amager Beach is a perfect place to relax with a book, sunbathe, swim, paddle or play with the children. Between the island and the mainland is a lagoon. Here you find children’s beaches with shallow water and a 1000 m. lane for swimmers and rowers among other things. If there is wind, and it comes from the eastern corners, you will find wind and kite surfers, playing around. Sea kayaks are ploughing through the waters at almost all times.

The island is divided by a point that makes it possible to give the beaches their own distinctive character. The northern part of the island has a more natural wild beach look, with wide sandy beaches and low sand dunes. A winding path takes you through the northern beach, down to the southern part where the city beach is.

A wide pier serves as the backbone of the southern part of the island (the city beach). The pier is perfect for a nice stroll along the coast, and during the summer months you can buy yourself a cup of coffee, something to eat, or an ice cream. The southern part of the island is rounded off with a little marina where small boats can moor for the day. You can walk directly from the marina to the mainland where you will find two parks for recreational activities called Femøren and Tiøren (5-cents and 10-cents).

IDRÆTS- OG KULTURHUSET PRISMEN OG KVARTERHUSET

SPORTS AND CULTURE HOUSE PRISMEN & THE NEIGHBOURHOOD HOUSE

Prismen or ‘The Prism’ is a 3,400 sq. m.  multi-sport and culture facility.
A large scale of flexibility dominates the indoor landscape. There is room for both organized and unorganized sports. The house can also be adapted to host a range of concerts and theatre shows.
The central architectural idea is a green indoor landscape that twists itself in several layers. At the bottom is a large surface, mainly allocated for ball games. The green surface folds itself upwards at one end towards multi-functional plateaus, where activities such as martial arts and yoga are practised. Underneath the plateau are the changing rooms, administrative offices and café.
The indoor landscape of the sport and culture house has a gigantic transparent sheeting. A kind of webbing, shaped to resemble a duck’s foot, is stretched out between the new house and four adjacent sides of an existing housing. The transparent protective cover ensures optimal daylight throughout the house. When  darkness falls, the new house serves as a shining crystal on Holmbladsgade where shadows from the indoor activities are visible from the outside.

DET MARITIME UNGDOMSHUS

THE MARITIME YOUTH HOUSE

Sailing, fishing, rowing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and diving, you name it and the Maritime Youth House on the island of Amager has it all. The youth house has opened many opportunities for the district's water-loving children and adolescents.
The youth house is especially characteristic due to its undulating deck.
The architects behind the Youth House, PLOT, managed to establish a construction that contains two houses roofed with a 1,600 sq. m. waving tree cover, which offers an artificial landscape at the water's edge. The undulating deck is not just fun to play on; it is also a convenient and elegant solution to an environmental problem. The land that lies within the Youth House is so polluted that an ordinary facility built directly on the site would have required a costly clean up of the soil. Instead of using a quarter of the budget to clean up, the architects chose to cover the polluted soil with wood and in this way created 1,600 sq. m. of outdoor space, instead of the planned 375. PLOT has won several awards for the distinctive architecture and practical functionality of the Maritime Youth House.
